ABOUT THIS COURSE

Every workplace needs someone who can act fast when it matters most. The Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF) is a fully regulated, one-day qualification that equips employees with the essential skills to respond safely and effectively to a range of workplace medical emergencies.

Delivered by National Training Hub โ€” a Qualsafe registered centre โ€” this course gives employers confidence that their first aid provision meets legal requirements, without the need for lengthy due diligence checks.

Suitability

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?

This course is ideal for any employee who has been nominated as an emergency first aider in their workplace, or who wishes to take on that responsibility. It is well suited to a wide range of organisations nationwide across England and Wales, including:

  • Offices and retail environments
  • Care homes and healthcare support settings
  • Construction sites
  • Schools and educational establishments
  • Manufacturing facilities

It is particularly appropriate for businesses that have carried out a first aid needs assessment and identified that a one-day qualification meets the level of risk present in their workplace.

Entry requirements: No prior first aid knowledge required. Delegates must be at least 14 years old and able to perform practical tasks at floor level.

Learning Outcomes

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Describe the role and responsibilities of an emergency first aider in the workplace, including how to minimise the risk of infection and obtain consent before providing first aid.
  • Safely assess an emergency situation, conduct a scene survey, carry out a primary survey of a casualty, and summon appropriate assistance including calling 999 or 112.
  • Recognise when a casualty requires CPR, perform adult CPR to the correct depth and rate, safely use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and place a breathing casualty in the recovery position.
  • Provide first aid to a casualty experiencing a seizure, including keeping them safe, monitoring their airway, and knowing when to call the emergency services.
  • Identify and respond to a choking adult, using back blows and abdominal thrusts to clear a blocked airway.
  • Assess the severity of external bleeding, apply appropriate techniques to control it, and recognise the signs of life-threatening blood loss.
  • Recognise the signs of shock caused by blood loss and provide appropriate first aid while awaiting emergency services.
  • Administer first aid for a range of minor injuries including cuts, grazes, bruises, nosebleeds, splinters, and minor burns and scalds.
Course Structure

COURSE OVERVIEW

This is a one-day classroom-based course with six hours of guided learning, delivered by an experienced, Qualsafe-approved trainer. The day is carefully structured to blend clear theoretical teaching with hands-on practical sessions, so you will spend a good proportion of your time practising skills such as CPR, using a defibrillator, and managing a choking casualty using training equipment.

Assessment takes place throughout the day and includes four observed practical assessments and a short 15-question multiple choice paper completed under exam conditions โ€” a minimum score of 11 out of 15 is required to pass.

Classes are capped at a maximum of 12 delegates per trainer. Our instructors create a supportive, relaxed environment where delegates can build confidence at a sensible pace.
